From Store-Bought Juice to Creating Fictional Brewing
Back in 2024, I decided to test the waters of homebrewing. Like a lot of people, I wasn't sure if I'd actually enjoy the hobby—or if I had the skills to make anything remotely drinkable.
My first experiment was as low-budget as it gets: fermenting store-bought grape juice right inside the plastic bottle it came in. When that single batch actually turned out drinkable instead of a biohazard, I was hooked. I immediately upgraded to proper gear—my first 1-gallon carboy, a bung, an airlock, and a tub of Star San—and never looked back.
Since then, I’ve been averaging a new brew every two weeks. There have definitely been a few epic failures along the way, but every batch taught me something new about fermentation science, flavor profiles, and process control.
Eventually, standard recipes weren't enough. I started pulling inspiration directly from the fantasy books, video games, and sci-fi shows I was obsessed with—asking myself, "What would this actually taste like in real life?" That curiosity is why I launched TheApothecaryHQ YouTube channel: to share these wild recipes, document the experimental chaos, and help others skip the mistakes I made early on.
